The city of Carencro, Lafayette Parish, is located just north of Lafayette, Louisiana. The vast residential development, commercial and economic progression has made Carencro an independent trading area. Derek Plaza Shopping Center, a 30,000 sq.ft. retail center, is located on the southwest quadrant (SWQ) of I-49 & Veterans Drive, positioning it on the highest traffic strip in Carencro. Due to the new major residential subdivisions, bringing over 800 new homes and over 2000 new residents in the next two years, Derek Plaza Shopping Center is directly in “the path of progress” for residential and commercial growth. It is located on the west side of I-49, where the majority of the new and existing residents and retailers are. Retail generators in close proximity are Home Bank, Iberia Bank, Melancon’s Pharmacy, Don’s Country Mart, McDonald’s, Burger King, Popeye’s, Domino’s Pizza, Jet 24 Gas/Convenience Store, Chevron, Dollar General, and Family Dollar.

Carencro is the home of Pelican Park, a multi-million dollar complex with “country club” surroundings for softball players and spectators. The facilities also host festivals, concerts and corporate events and is open year round and caters to 25,000 ball players, 50,000 fans and over 20,000 concert goers each year. This is a total of over 95,000 people visiting Pelican Park annually.

The proposed 30,000 square foot retail shopping center, Derek Plaza Shopping Center, will be built in two phases. The project has four free-standing outparcels for retail development. Ground-breaking is scheduled in February and opening in October of 2010.
